In addition to the transit observations, K2 also observed almost 9,000 targets in the ecliptic plane as part of the Planet Hunters and Ecliptic Plane Input Catalog programs. As of August 2017, K2 has produced almost 4,600 scientific publications. In the first three extention phases (K2-3, K2-4, and K2-5), more than 150,000 targets were observed, with more than 100,000 new scientific objects discovered. The K2 mission was officially declared complete on the 4 September 2018, with the conclusion of the fifth and final extention phase.
